The Super Bowl was played on Sunday and in San Marcos a drunk driver severely injured a 44 year old Oceanside woman when his speeding SUV crashed head on with the Toyota Siena minivan the victim was driving. He was in a big hurry to get somewhere. Instead he caused an innocent victim to be airlifted to Palomar Hospital with major injuries.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just after the start of the Super Bowl, at about 4:00 pm. The drunk driver was on Buena Creek Road speeding north in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. He overtook a motor home south of Monte Vista Drive. He entered the southbound lane in the wrong direction and clipped a motorcyclist before colliding head-on with the victim's 2007 Toyota Sienna. Miraculously, the motorcyclist was uninjured.
We all have heard don't drink and drive. Unfortunately many people do not heed this warning. For the victims of drunk drivers, their lives are forever changed. The numbers are staggering. Driving under the influence accounts for approximately 25% of the fatal car accidents.
