Last weekend a Pit Bull bit and killed a woman. In San Diego this summer several horrific dog bites to both children and adults has occurred. Our weather in San Diego is conducive to people being out and about. Each day people in our community jog, bicycle, walk and enjoy our natural resources such as our beaches. These activities increase the chance of encountering unrestrained dogs that are loose and running at large. All dogs can bite. Never approach a dog that is running loose. Even if the dog appears to be under the control of the owner by way of leash or otherwise be careful! Recently, in San Francisco the owner of a Pit Bull was attacked by her own dog and killed. In San Diego several vicious dog bites and maulings have happened. In fact, the United States Postal Service has ranked San Diego as one of the most dangerous areas in the United States for Letter Carriers being attacked and bitten. Last year one of our letter carriers here in San Diego County died as a result of a dog attack. Dog bites are a serious matter. The injuries can be both physical and emotional. An attack on either a child or an adult can result in disfigurement and emotional scarring.
